I asked months ago for build advice but I didn't really have the funds at the time to build. I think that I actually might this time. Thoughts on the below setup with about $800 as a starting budget (but under that would make my wife happier):

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $66.99

MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS $79.99

ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM $19.99

Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W Continuous @40°C,80 PLUS BRONZE Certified, Single 12V Rail, Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7,i5" Power Supply-$30.00 Instant $89.99 $59.99

Western Digital WD Black WD5003AZEX 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $74.99

EVGA 02G-P4-2760-KR GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card $249.99

AMD FX-4300 Vishera 3.8GHz (4.0GHz) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4300WMHKBOX $119.99

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition VL80001W2Z Black SECC / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $29.99

With the new i5s out will the 3570s become cheaper? How much better performance could I expect if shelled out the roughly $100 more for one? And more future proof, correct?

An i5 is pretty future proof, just get the Haswell series, if you can afford it.

Intel cpus are pretty future proof for most applications.

Considering the i3 and 4300 are more comparable with each other due to the nature of AMD's modules, it's worth the extra for a Haswell i5.
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-4430 Haswell 3.0GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I54430

A B85 motherboard is slightly more expensive though.
Newegg.com - ASRock B85M-HDS LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Worth the slight extra cost in performance though.

Sorry if this question is a completely redundant one, but isn't the 4430 slower than the 3750? It is cheaper, but beyond that why buy the slower one? If you have links I will happily read and save whoever answers some time.

Does it matter that, according to the new egg comparison tool, the 4430 doesn't have a heatsink and fan?

The upgrade path to the Socket 1150 platform makes the slight differences in performance moot between the 3570 and 4430. Haswell overall is about 10% faster which closes the gap between the small 400MHz differences in clock speed.

The Z87/B85 chipsets come with more features and will support the Haswell refresh rather than 1155/Ivy Bridge which is dead already. If you wish to purchase into the small difference in speed that is up to you, but the latter makes more sense which is why I said if you go i5 might as well get that which you can upgrade later. It's either that, or you can spend a little bit more and get the 4670k along with a B85 ASRock board which will still allow overclocking and save money compared to getting a Z87 board.

Is the 4750 worth the extra $10 over the 4430?

The seagate has a 16MB cache and the WD one has 64MB...what differences would I see because of this? And what does that mean?

A friend I am talking to about this also says the extra $7 for this mobo is totally worth it.

Am I splitting hairs at this point over some of this stuff?
