Could a low voltage PSU reading be the problem?

Hi guys!

Built a security rig a while back. It kept shutting down over and over.

The darn thing couldn't even complete a memtest86+

Yanked the NEW PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 400W review and threw it on two separate cheap PSU testers.

The PSU testers are giving a loud alarm and showing a 2.9v reading where there is suppose to be a 3.3v?

Have I isolated the problem gentlemen?

Ok, and for future references, how much can the volts be off and still be ok to use?

Example: you are saying 2.9 volts vs. the recommended 3.3 is waaaaaaaay off.

What is tolerable?

Normally the voltages are a 100th lower or slightly higher to give an example.

Wow! Well, if that is truly the case, then PC Power and Cooling missed the boat big time on this PSU!

After being bought out by OCZ their quality lost my respect.

The only voltage that is "safe" being lower is 12v down to 11.86 or so under full load.

Yeah, I heard a little about OCZ buying them out. Hopefully this PSU was manufactured before OCZ got their spoon in the pot!

Silencer Mk2 was released as OCZ. The buyout was in 07. So one could assume the mk3 will be newer.
