It says no connections are available. Could this be because I did not install the drivers after installing a new HDD? If so do I have to download all the drivers from HP?

Did you do a fresh install of windows?
If so, then yes, you must install the device drivers in order for most of your computer's hardware to work properly.
Locate your the model number of your laptop and go to hp's website to search for your specific drivers (be sure to the pick the right operating system i.e. - 32/64bit).
