Formatting hard drive!!!!!

not 100% sure, but I think if you put in a dos/98 bootdisk made on any system, restart and press the relevant function key to open up the command prompt on the A drive, you should be able to run fdisk at the prompt. This will allow you to delete/change/add partitions to your harddrive, you can then insert the xp set-up cd and this will format and install on the primary partition.

All this would not work for NTFS.
Try your XP CD or get a third party NTFS formatting tool.

it worked for me - and i'm running and NTFS formatted HDD - I used fdisk off an old 982E boot floppy just to remove the existing partition when I wanted to completely replace xp home with xp pro - then inserted the cd and it gave the option to format the dirve as NTFS..

Yes, it works with the XP disc. You cannot format using NTFS using a 98 floppy though.
