Reinstalling OS

Hello,

This is my first post here and i hope i am not asking a stupid question.

Recently my laptop got corrupt and i was told i needed to reinstall the OS fresh.
So i brought it to a repair shop because when i tried to do it myself the product key on the laptop sticker would'nt work.

So my question is!

How do the professionals in these repair shows do it?
Do they have a collection of keys or are they using some kind of trick.

For me knowing how it is done in whatever method,is something that i would find interesting and nothing else.

What version of Windows is the sticker on the bottom for, and what version of disc were you using? You need to make sure you're using the same version of disc that matches your key.

I am windows 7 home and the disc i am using is the same version.

Is the disc OEM, Retail, or an Upgrade disc?

I bet that is a Retail Disc ,
