Just bought a PC with Windows 8... can I switch to Windows 7?

I bought a refurbished PC directly from Dell(Model XPS8500). It has a spinning drive with Windows 8 installed.

I would like to remove the hard drive from this system and replace it with a solid state drive, and then install Windows 7 on the new drive.

Will this be a problem?

There should be no problem. But you will need a Windows 7 Product Key or any other words you need to buy Windows 7.

When you replace the boot disk with the SSD you should you the HDD as a data drive to save space on the SSD.

You'll need to look to see if they have drivers for all of your components for Win7. And like bpm55 said, you'll also need a legit license key to install Win7.

According to Dell, that model came with 7 at one point so i say all clear.

Simple answer, yes. Simply Googling XPS 8500 brought me to a page which had both OS's listed.
