I was putting in a new cooling block, so I took out the CPU to clean the old grease off of it. Of course, it slipped out of my hands and landed right on the motherboard socket. Eh, no big deal, I figured... didn't seem to do any damage.

Turns out it is a big deal. The computer wouldn't post, so I took the CPU out and took a better look with a flashlight. I bent a couple of pins on the motherboard :(

Anyways, just a tip to those working on your rigs... that cover isn't just for shipping! ASUS says they'll see if the can fix it, and if not, it's $120 to get a refurbished (I.E., previously damaged) unit.
 
+2 (.03 lead mechanical pencil works great.)

I've even used a very fine set of tweezers on one old cpu. The type of tweezers that have the sharp points on them. Oh, and a magnifying glass as well. :p
