Epson HELP

Hey I have and old Epson styles Rx580 printer and I am trying to either make it only use black ink, or figure out the best way to print on transparencies. I have printed transparencies before but for some reason only 1 or 2 types of transparency papers worked. I just needed to let them dry for a while. I have wasted a lot of money on papers I cant print on and color ink cartridges that I don't use but somehow still go empty.

A lot of printers these days are designed to force you to use all the cartridges
The companies claim by using the colour cartridges that blacks are blacker
So every time you print in black it uses all the cartridges to create a truer black colour
Therefore I don't think you will be able to force it to use just the one cartridge

As for printing on transparencies I haven't done this myself, but I know it is not easy to do on some inkjet printers.
It's been about ten years since I worked for HP's printer\scanner\fax department so I am a little out of touch lol
So hopefully someone else can give you some tips.
