I'm building a PC for X-Mas. First time building one besides in school. Wish me luck. Anyway, it's gonna be strictly for gaming. Gonna get 1GB DDR, a ATI X800 Pro 256MB, Abit Mobo, etc.. I'm currently deciding on the processor and trying to save some cash. I'm getting a AMD64, question is, will I see alot of difference between a 3000+ and a 3200+ and if so is there much difference between 3200+ and 3500+ ? It will be a 939. With such a $$ graphics board I don't wont my processor being the limiting factor. I wont the processor to be able to run in stride with it. I will be playing Doom 3 and Half Life 2 alot with near max settings (which I have allready beaten). I wanna spend around $1100 - $1500 and wanna make this cpu last atleast 2 years. I allready have keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers. Please help me out ! Thanks in advance.

meh, if you can go for the 3500+ 939 go for it, but if you get the 3200+ 939 and put the extra money into a 6800gt (much better than x800pro).

Let me also say I will not be OC'ing anything. I have allways prefered ATI over Nvidia, unless there is a big difference. If so let me know !!

As an X800 Pro owner, I am WARNING you to get the 6800GT. It is so much better than the X800 pro that its a shame that an X800 pro goes for the same price. Look at it this way. My friend with a 6800GT can play Doom 3 on 4xAA and 8xAF and never go below 60fps. Because I have an X800 pro which is the same price, I only get about 25-30 fps in some areas where there are alot of shadows. In HL2, my 6800GT friend never dips below 70 fps in that game maxed out, while I never dip below 50 fps, which isn't bad, but its no where near as good as the 6800GT. Basically, the X800 Pro, although better than a Radeon 9800XT, is a piece of s**t when compared to the 6800GT. There is NO competition. Get the 6800GT, man!

Slightly, which is easy if you get the eVGA 6800GT, but even without any overclocking at all, the 6800GT makes the X800 pro look rediculous.

I've been reading up and I am gonna get the 6800 GT and maybe OC some. Sooo, will the 3200+ processor be ok to run Doom and HL2 at the max settings ?

i think the 3200+ should be finne, especially if you overclock it. my friends has a 3500+ @ 2.65Ghz on an Asus Av8 board...but that might not be what you want. I think the 3200+ will still do very well.
