Can you use a SATA Drive without a RAID configuration?
Because I'm planning on using 1 hard drive, and I don't know if I should go with the 8MB cache of a SATA drive, or the 8MB cache of the EIDE.....Wouldn't the data transfer still be faster in a SATA?

You can use a single SATA HDD on the native channel.

There will be a small increase in performance.

You'll notice a small performance increase. The fastest IDE HDDs can transfer data up to 133 MB/s, while SATA does 150MB/s

As long as your motherboard has PCI all devices except RAM and AGP are limited to 133MB/s and have to share it.

Don't hard drives use DMA channels?

Yes, but that's the way the harddrives communicate with the IDE controller. The IDE controller connects to the rest of the computer through the southbridge (PCI bus).

I thought DMA channels are used as a shortcut to memory (RAM), and not used for the hdd to communicate with the ide cont.

By the way, I'm not trying to argue with you or prove you wrong or anything like that, I just want to know:)
