how? getting rid of windows messenger

I can't seem to get rid of windows messenger! I have set it so that it doesn't start and log automatically, and I have tried to uninstall it which I don't think worked. it is really annoying me because if I don't log into MSN messenger or if I log off MSN messenger, people can still see me because for some reason windows messenger is logged on. is there a way to get rid of windows messenger and stop it from logging on, etc when I go on the net?

remove windows messenger chat service

Make sure your Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Windows Messenger and other programs are closed before doing this.

1) Click on Start, Run
2) Type the following (or cut and paste it) into the Run line

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

3) Click on OK

You will have to reboot for it to fully work.
