I want to be able to connect my Canon MX700 printer via ethernet cable to my Linksys Router - WRT54G2, with the ultimate goal of having only the printer and router on, and able to print wirelessly from my iPad, MacBook and/or iPhone. Is this possible, and if so, how?

setup the printer as a networked printer with tis own ip address (i'm assuming this is possible).
Try apple's airprint.

Add Canon MX700 as network printer
you will need the network driver and to setup the IP address of the printer this should be set manually so that the printer doesnt hop IP addresses like it might if connected via DHCP ....
then you will need to speak with a genius about setting up CUPS to print to a TCP/IP port if you were using windows I could walk you trough it ... but unfortunately my knowledge of Mac configs is limited.
I've gotten to the point that the printer LAN has the following details:
IP address: 192.168.1.114
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
MAC address: 00:00:85:C6:3E:06
MAC address filtering: Off
IP address filtering: Off
The IP Configuration for the router's Network Connection has the following setting:
Physical address: 00-16-76-C2-18-4E
DHCP enable: Yes
Autoconfiguration enable: Yes
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1
I've setup the printer driver on the MacBook OS X ver. 10.5.8; the General settings for the printer are:
Name: 192.168.1.114
Location:
Queue name: _192_168_1_114
Host name: localhost
Driver version: 10.67.1.0
URL: lpd://192.168.1.114/
The most I'm getting out of the printer from the MacBook are test pages, from the printer's utility, and nothing else.

OK two things you need to set a DHCP reservation for 114 for your printer on your router.
check to make sure port 9100 is open on all of your firewalls

I setup wireless print all the time, here is now I do it.
Make sure all devices are off, now connect the printer to the router and unplug the direct cable to your computer.
Turn on the printer and then turn on your main computer.
On that computer, go to the printer setup and change it to network and then make sure it works.
Once that is working, turn on your laptop, make sure you are wirelessly connected to your router, insert the setup disk for the printer and in the setups it will ask for network or direct.
Select network and follow the instructions. It should see the printer in the settings.
Select the printer and you should be good.
I have set this up on both Windows and Mac and not had a problem.
After it is all up and working, you can, if you wish, change the IP on the printer to a static IP but for the most part I do not do that as it will always get the first IP available, usually a .2, .3, or .4.
