I have noticed that RAM with 184 pin count is much more expensive than 240 pin count. Maybe this is just wishful thinking but is there an adapter from 184 to 240?

DDR is more expensive than DDR2 and 3 due to low stock and less demand. There is no adapter.

That adapter is for writing SPD only. Basically increases the frequency the RAM can run at natively.

what does writing spd mean?

So if I am just trying to update a computer by putting in higher RAM, putting a 2gig 240 pin into this and inserting it into my computer would not work?

Not to be rude, but I already answered your question with my second sentence. It doesn't adapt DDR2 to DDR to be run in DDR boards. It writes a higher frequency SPD to slower DIMMs for overclocking. In other words, you stick a DDR2 stick on top, pop it in your board, and write its SPD to your DDR sticks for an increase in frequency used to overclock multi locked CPUs.

So no, it wont work the way you want it to. You will just have to buy 4 1GB sticks as I don't know of any DDR boards that support 2GB sticks.
