Thinking...thinking...thinking, never done

My pc is always making that incredibly annoying thinking sound, even as I sit here typing this the stpuid thing is thinking. I want to avoid a major system reformat so I have done all of the usuall spy-ware and ad-ware stuff, virus' programs running etc, but nothing seems to work.

Thinking sound, you mean the hard drive is working???

Check your task manager and check the CPU usage. And download Filemon and check for active processes.

CTRL+ALT+TAB into the task manager then go to process's and close all the shit you dont need. it will reduce cpu utilisation thus reducing the 'thinking' sound.

*ctrl + alt + del = tasks

Maybe last few breaths of the HD?

That will only be a temporary fix.
Disable the program wich causes the sound from start/run services.msc

Well thanks for the input, but like I said I already tried those things. Ah well I will keep an eye on it.

if that didnt work go Start > Run > msconfig
and disable all the services u dont need
