Building a gaming desktop....

What I was saying, is the only game you can modify on there is Skyrim. The system Jason build will run all those games just fine.

Ah. I was using Skyrim as an example for games I will be heavily modded, and the other for just high performance games. I would also be playing other heavily modded games with max performance and just other high performance games. As an example, would the PC I built from that website run the games fine on high settings?

no.

you 'wasted' money on a cpu (there are 8 cores but nothing you do will use them all. the gaming that you do will suffer as each individual core runs slower than the intel one that i suggested) and 4x as much ram as you need that runs at a slower speed than what i suggested (1600 vs 1333). you 'waste' money on an overly large (im suspecting) hard drive. all of this money that you are spending on inferior or wasted parts means that the gpu that you have is entirely underpowered. you need to spend twice and a half what you are spending to get the performance that you want.

if your budget is really solid at 900 we can work to take a few parts down a notch to better afford the case and a dvd drive.

This is what's confusing me. What is the difference between i3, i5, and i7? Whats the difference between different cores? What is the difference between "Intel Core i5-2500 3.30GHz " and "Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz"?

And 8 gb ram should do but I like to at least slightly over do it. So 12gb, or 16gb maybe? (And I was just thinking the more ram, the better. it will only do good)

I think I'll get a 1T hard drive, more can't hurt though right?

And I have NO clue on how to buy a motherboard.

The same with a graphics card. "HIS HD 7870 IceQ 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H787Q2G2M) w/ FARCRY3, Nexuiz & Sleeping Dogs PC Games" Do you judge with the 7870 number?

And I really would't know what else to add.

Edit: Also, buying from www.dabs.com seems to be cheaper but better... can you maybe build the equivalent over there?

Helps to read my thread that is stickied to get an idea on CPU performance.
i3 is dual core, i5 is quad core, and i7 is quad with HT. The only exception is SB-E (socket 2011) i7 which is 6 core like my CPU.

8GB of RAM is overdoing it for gaming. 8GB of RAM is just good for people who like to run a ton of BS in the background and still have about 2GB left for games. Again, my thread explains this in detail.

If you get an Intel setup, any 1155 Z77 board really. I like ASRock myself. You don't have to make it expensive at all.

Like I said, just take what was already assembled and use the same parts on another site. For some reason UK sites have been loading real slow for me the past week or so which is why I don't do it myself. Aus sites are even slower.

Thanks. Ill have a look at your thread. And you're sure that 8GB is well over enough for what I want to be doing?

Yes. No game uses more than 3GB of RAM. My copy of Skyrim (which is heavily modded at a total install size of 14GB) uses no more than 1.8GB of RAM right now.

i do all kinds of things at once and don't see mine going over 6 total. ever.

Ah okay. I just thought because on the "can I run it?" website, the recommended system specs is 4GB and I thought that was on normal setting so putting it to max setting with heavy mods and background programs would take up a lot more RAM causing me to buy more than I need.

Just built one using basically what you gave me. This will run fine then?
