I am configuring a new Dell 8400. Based on how I buy the thing - I get two different choices on my dual drive configuration.

One offers me a 16x DVD-ROM drive and a 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write.

The other offers me a 48x CD-RW drive and a 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write.

For some reason I am thinking that I would be better off with the CD-RW - but is that true? Will I be able to burn CD's just as easily with the DVD burner? Sorry if this is a stupid question - there are so many flavors around now I can't keep up with them!

Never mind- I just confirmed with Dell that their DVD burners DO read/rec CDs - guaranteed.

go with the 16x dvd rom and 16x dvd+-/r-rw
dvd drives (r) read cds as well
and dvd rw s write ,re-write to cds fast.
also with that setup you can copy dvds (treasured moments of your childs firststeps for grandparents...)
