Win 2000nt problems

I bought this cheap compaq pent 3 laptop and the person has no idea about it. Real cheap money and so i turn it on and the pc boots up to the windows user name and pass section which i dont kno then i restart it and a power on password message comes on and i cant even get to the dos now i kno the pass but it dosent work.? what can i do is there a way i can clear the hhd wit out goin to bios?or reinstall the whole os

You can use a Win98 bootfloppy from www.bootdisk.com
Boot with that and type format c:
Doesn't work for NTFS.
U need an XP Disc or a third party program like Partition Magic to format

can u help me wit that site major? i want to download from the win2k but i dont kno which disks 1-2-3-4 or the make boot?

You need disks 1-4
You need to 2000 CD also. I presume you have that.
As far as I know the 2000 CD is not bootable (at least mine isn't)

That's why you need the 4 floppydisks to boot./ Download the four files and execute them. Make sure you have 4 empty floppies.

Reboot with floppy 1 in A: (floppydrive)

Make sure drive A: is set as primary boot device in your BIOS settings.

Make sure the 2ooo CD is inside your drive all the time.

During 2000 setup there will be an option to format/wipe the harddisk

Yes, try the CD. Or else you might have to get a bootable one if yours isn't.
