May drivers be installed while the HDD is on another PC?

L is a laptop pc.
D is a desktop pc.

HDD is removed from L and connected to D.
HDD is installed a new OS while being connected to D.

Drivers must be installed after the completion of the OS installation.

Question:
May drivers be installed while the HDD is connected to D?
Or, must the HDD be back to L for installing drivers?

Need to install the drivers while you're running the drive off of the laptop, unless you slipstream the drivers onto the disc by creating a custom install disc / image.

The slipstream is too difficult for me.
