GPU Upgrade & problem

Hello, i have upgraded from my old Geforce 8400gs 512mb to GTX 550 Ti 1Gb graphic card.

When i installed the 550, everything went ok, i installed the drivers from nvidia website but when i restarted my computer, the "windows aero" theme was not working for me and the start menu task bar thing was grey and not transparent.
I went on start > run > dxdiag and all the DirectX features were Disabled and my monitor was non-PnP.

I think i know what the problem is, its because my PSU has a maximum output of 250 watts, but im not sure. Is 250 enough for gtx 550 and AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 4000+ 2.1GHz? If yes, then what is the problem?

Eek, no youre not getting enough power. You should really have 400W.

Until yhou do, its useless to try and problem solve.

If you continue to run that card on 250w you are looking at possibly damaging it.

Yeah i though so, im buying a 750w PSU today. thanks for help

750w is too much. 650w would suffice. Make sure you get a Corsair TX.

Well i got a 750w anyway, its a trendsonic eye-t Modular psu and its working great, the card problem is fixed is well .
