Thanks for the in depth answer kmote.
I would rather spend a bit more in the first place for something that will last longer, and the case will be a good place to do that beings the rest of the technology will advance at a much faster pace and need to be updated more frequently.
I realize what I will be doing with a computer is pretty basic and drab compared to most here, but I still want to have the best that I can manage, and that is why I came to this site.

I agree with everything here except the implication that more expensive means better.

i concede the point. but in general

youll do better with a $90 case than a $25 case

clearly the murderbox 2 ($1200) is on the high end of price to features, while a cardboard box, which will also work, is on the other end of the price to feature spectrum
