Upgrading to a AMD proscesor But currently have Intel.?

I was thinking about upgrading my Intel 3.0 gig to some sort of AMD type procesor. Does this mean that the mother board i have know will not support a AMD chip? I really have no clue cause im kinda new but if i had to guess i would have to update my mother board to make it support amd sence the one i own know supports a intel? Or can i simpley buy a amd chip take my heatsink off and blop it in and be switched over to amd? (Doubt its this easy)!

Intel and AMD use difference technology, therefore both type of AMD based mobo and Intel mobo are different.
As you mentioned that u already have a 3Ghz Intel processor, i think is pretty enough to run any application. Moreover, there is no AMD processor can reach 3Ghz.

keep the P3 amd upgrade the memory, audio and video and ride it out until you can build or buy a new system
