I know there is a big price drop between the 3400 and the 3500 and that the 3500 is a completely different chip, the size is differnt etc, but how much faster is the 3500+? is it really worth the extra $150

$150? On NewEgg, its only $80 . . .

Maybe you're looking at the XP 3400+?

Anyways, the 3500+ has Socket 939, while the 3400+, at least the one I'M looking at is Socket 754 . . .

Socket 939 is the newer one, and the one AMD is sticking with for a while . . .

I am aware of all that. when I downgrade my processor I also downgrade my mother board too thats why it is the $150 jump. but my question stands, how much faster is it?

I wouldnt imagine it to be much FASTER . . . I would imagine that the 3500+ would be more flexible and more upgradeful in the future, like, Socket 939 now has motherboards that are both AGP and PCI-Express, while 754 is still stuck with AGP.

The 3500+ is more future-proof . . . if that's worth $150 to you, then I say get the 3500+. If not, 3400+ is the same quality.

It also depends on what core you have, they come in different cores meaning better speed here and faster times there.

Honestly you are better off with the 939 (assuming you have the money) than the 3400+, but both will do more than their fair amount.
