So my family is insisting that I should just buy an already built pc instead of building my own. They keep saying I should just buy this SYX Venture SG-310 Performance PC - Intel Core i5 3470 3.2 GHz, Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64 Bit, 2GB NVIDIA GT 640, 8GB DDR3, 1TB 7200rpm HDD at TigerDirect.com. Is my rig substantially better than this one?

the gpu is much weaker and you wont really know what kind of psu is in there. but it will be safe to say that it wont be near the quality of the corsair. that's generally how prebuilts make their margins, by putting in weaker gpu's and psu's.

I would say push a bit on the budget and try for a 560ti instead.
