Hi thought I would see if anyone out there knows what could be wrong with my speakers (creative t40) , ill list symptoms below:

-speakers play music from my sound card on PC

-they play music when plugged into laptop

-on both occasions none of the external control knobs ( volume, bass, treble ) work

-I have had the front cover off and could not see any loose wires / damage to the PCB's , capacitors ect..

I'm assuming this is a hardware issue and thought I would see what more tech savvy people would think before purchasing some others and making these speakers my backup pair. (off topic recommendations on alternatives at sub £100 price welcome :) )

thanks for any responses , any more info required please ask.

cheers

J

Those dials can go bad sometimes. Happened on my mother's car, too. It would turn the volume up and down, but takes a couple tries before it will.

I would just look into some new speakers than spending more trying to fix them.

I can recommend these: Logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers - 70W RMS | Ebuyer.com

I have a set of those. Bought them maybe 5 years ago, and it has rocked my world ever since.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, I figured the internals had just given up :(

thanks for the recommendation also , I have been using the creative T40 's from a line out (green) jack on my sound card, I am confused as to if i would need another card for a 5.1 system though? my current card ( old X-fi sound blaster ) has green, pink, blue and what looks like an optical socket (yellow)

Maybe you should upgrade your sound card, too.

I think green is sound output, Pink is microphone, and blue is like input. Can't remember...
