Good idea to buy a Refurbished Hard Drive?

By refurbished is the motor swapped? You don't want to buy a drive with a lot of running hours logged on it.

Depends on what was wrong with the drive initially to make it get refurb'd. They usually don't say what was done to the item after it's been refurb'd.

I made that mistake once, The drives did work but they were extremely noisy. They sounded like the old 700 mb drives from the late 80's. They chattered so loud during a write you could hear them in another room. Luckily for me newegg did take them back on an rma
I agree with everybody else here....Avoid refurb drives!

Now that I think of it, I did buy some refurb Seagate 320GB. They were just at an awesome price, couldn't pass it up. Although they did die, 4 years later. But we always kept backups in 3 locations. So we lost nothing.
