Mguire, do you know if I would get a gain of over 15 fps with the 6870 or 7770 for Diablo 3?

I can't really tell you for sure, but by simply looking at the specs going with the 6870 should be at the absolute minimum 50% increase in performance.
800 to 1120 Shaders, double ROPs, double mem bandwidth just to name a few.
