How to turn a laptop screen off?

Hey guys I was wondering is it possible to have a laptop computer running but no screen on? As when I get my laptop in July or later I will be hooking it up to my alarm and using it 24/7 but I don't want the screen running and using extra power so is this possible?

Just close it, with the power options set to noit sleep

no I was thinking more along the lines of turning the screen off completely

If you close the screen, the screen does shut off.

You can also set the power savings mode to turn of the screern after X minutes, just lke any system. This is how I run my desktop 24/7

You can use Nircmd to do all kinds of stuff. I use this tool to turn my laptops screen off.

Was going to suggest this. I used to do this all the time with my old laptop (my new laptop has a hotkey to actually turn the LCD off).

Create a shortcut with the following switch after you install it (without the quotes):
"nircmd.exe monitor off"
