using a TV as a true monitor

I have my TV as a 3rd monitor, works great for video, but not for reading text or stock charts on your browser. The bookmarks on the browser impossible to read. One would need to have the TV distance equal to the monitor distance which is about 24 inches in order to actually use the TV as a true monitor.
Without having to move my TV closer is there any solution to having the TV display a larger text?

You would need to change the resolution of the TV down, I would think.

Lower resolution, or increase the text size for that single screen.
