In terms of overclocking which is superior?

It is my understanding the the 3rd gen "Ivy Bridge" cpu's are simply tweaks of the sandy bridge line up.

After browsing reviews here and there it seems that although in factory form the 3700k is quicker than the 2600k it seems to have a lower overclock threshold where as reports of 5GHz OCs on the 2600k are common.

I use my PC for mostly gaming, and I love to overclock. I am using a rather intense H2O cooling system so heat is not an issue.
Throwing aside the minute differences which of the two would you recommend?

I have been putting together a wishlist for months now and the time is getting near to upgrade from my e8400. With the new z77 chipsets and Ivy Bridge releases I wanted to be sure I am making the right choice for my purposes.

Unless you have a phase or LN2 setup I suggest sticking with the 2700k if you want to OC. I will make note though, that even with water it is still hit and miss whether you will actually achieve 5+ghz on any of these chips.

If you're going to overclock get the 2600K, if you're not then get an Ivy Bridge i7. Simple as that ;)
