hi
did a search first before posting and understood a bit more about semprons .

1.
Is a 2200 athlon worth more than £10 than a 2300 sempron??
my brother needs a new computer so i'm building him one. he doesn't do gaming or anything. maybe the occasional dvd, music and general word processing etc. suggestions?

2.
next this is an over view of his computer to be:
amd sempron 2300 processor
Asus A7V8X-X mother board
crucial 512 pc2700 memory
XFX mx4000 64mb video card
sony black cd-rw
sony black dvd-rom
Maxtor 80gb UDMA133 diamond max +9

by my noob skills i figure it'll all fit together and is decent enough for him. can anyone see any problems with it?

3.
and this is mine:
athlon 2400+
asus A7N8X deluxe
1GB PC2700 (512 crucial + 2x256 generic)
nvidia Fx5200 128mb
280GB UDMA133 (80gb maxtor, 200gb maxtor)

what should be my next upgrade? i'm obviously thinking graphics or processor. which? for what? I play a bit of UT2004 and quite a bit of UT want higher frames :D and just a better computer

many thanks for any replies to any of these 3 areas

for my brother - £400.
that spec above inc. windows xp comes to £400

(a currency converter makes that AUS$950 am i reading right that you are in australia?)

yes I do live in Australia
I reccomend this:
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
this graphics card is good enough to play Doom 3 or Half Life 2, and is not very expensive
AMD Sempron 2600+
I reccomend at least a 2600+
Gigabyte GA-7N400L
Gigabyte are IMO the best motherboard manufacturers, they have good quality and lots of features
Geil 2x256MB PC3200 RAM
Geil make good RAM, especially if you want to overclock
Pioneer 108 16x DVD±R/RW Dual Layer black
Pioneer has the best quality DVD burners, and this is the fastest speed of them
Seagate 80GB IDE
Seagate are IMO the best brand of hard drive for quality, speed and are virtually silent.
