all under 4500

Thanks guys, I ended up going with this:

Here's the specs:

Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard
G-Skills Ripjaws 8 - 8GB sticks
Intel i7 3930k Six-Core Processor
Thermaltake 10 Case
Two 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black Hard Drives
Corsair Force3 240 GB Solid State Hard Drive
LG Blu-Ray Burner
Corsair 850W Power Supply
Nvida Geforce GTX 680
Corsair H100

He is going to need server level CPUs if he will be doing 4K renderings. I would go with a dual CPU XEON personally.

One other question are you going to be redering digitally created images or doing digitizing of footage that was previously filmed? Those are two very different things and require a vastly different GPU set up.

I would probably get a stronger video card ...maybe quadro 4000 and up
