Upgrade!

ok i want to upgrade my computer but... about acouple years ago i had a HP Computer which had 256 DDR ram in it.. i tryed to put 256x2 to equal 512MB and it just crashed... and it couldnt be fixed... if so it would cost alot so i built this computer. and i want to upgrade my Harddrive and my RAM.. but im kinda scared to install my ram i have 512MB DDR ram now... so i take out the 512 Ram and put the 1024 RAM when i get it.. i shouldnt need to buy to 512's. and also about the HD.. im gonna get either 120GB or 200 GB harddriver for 89 bucks its western Digital.. but do i get IDE or ATA? and also im thinking of gettin a 19" Black Flat Screen Monitor... with the RAM update and stuff my computer should run good? Thanks for any help.

It will run faster with 1024 MB RAM.
Make sure your Mobo supports the RAM. (check manual/website)

SATA is faster than ATA, make sure your mbob supports it.

You could look your mobo up on the internet and read the FAQ's and see what hardware is compatible with it, and what isn't.

I think your RAM didn't work because they were different speeds, different latencies or both

u need identical sets of ram for a increase in perfomance.
