Hey guys I'm Luke127 age 15 and currently in Year 10 of high school. I am also in the know how when it comes to windows XP and later. Usually I am quite happy to help as long as you are polite to me and do not tell me what to do unless you are a moderator or Administrator. Then you may tell me what to do otherwise please just be polite. Anyway back on topic. I love to help in anyway I can which is why I have started to research security measures on PC's. I also have my own Website which I would like to have someone with more experience in computers to help me build. So I am enthusiastic and I am also a great speller so apart from all of that I am pretty much your teenager except I hate parties because I have school work to do and I also do not like to drink as I am under age. I also have some awesome security measures in place on my mums PC which is ours until I can either get a new one or get a new hard drive for my old acer extensa 5220

Welcome to the Forums Luke127. You say you dont mind helping, so would you be able to advise on what security messures are Good for a Win 7 Pro Michine. Do you know of any other means other than Internet Protection, such as KIS and a Firewall. I often do a Full scan over the Home network here at home and update Softwere often, but often wounder if I'm missing something out. Mabie its just common sence, such as being able to trace Network activity and read logs ect, but normally unless I'm faced with a Problem then I'll not Investigate it.

Yes I would but that depends on how far you want to go. When it comes to my PC even the FBI can't crack this baby it's got a 768 but encryption plus an encrypted operating system AND the bios is programmed to ask for a password on boot. Truecrypt is a free sfotware I use to encrypt and protect data. So like I said how far do you want to go? If it's hackers your worried about if you encrypt your C: Drive with truecrypt no one can touch it unless they know the password and best of all it's a free software. But virus wise not much we can do except get a good anti virus. Same with trojans worms etc etc

Also the first post I made is true I do not like parties as I am dedicated to becoming an IT specialist and to do that I need to get I think it is 95% in my HSC? And I am not from the UK I am Australian! Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi OI!! Also there was no parent next to me my mum was out getting a massage because she gets lower back pain.

+1 to TrueCrypt, it's awesome BIOS password is much easier to get around, particularly if you have physical access to the system.

But with truecrypt also asking for a password on boot that's 2 passwords that are hard to crack the BIOS is a small one but the truecrpyt one is about 50 characters long and is a mixed case and numeral password so like this LuKe IIVIIXIX get what I mean? It has multiple number languages in it not just our 1234 one.

Also (Sorry for double post!) I am looking for some people to help me establish my learn about computers website. Although I have said the name I will not advertise the site address and it doesn't come up in any page of google unless you want to spend hours searching for it therefore I am not advertising just looking for some people who know more about computers than myself to help me make a reasonably sized data base for computer know how

I've came accross True Crypt befor luke127, but wasnt sure if I'd screw up my Drive by useing the program so backed off from it. Are their any pit falls out their I should know about it. Say for example how long would it take to encrypt a 500GB Drive c:\

Well it would take awhile to encrypt DEPENDING on the encryption type and algorithm but I would check with someone more knowledgeable as I only have a 500 gig myself but I don't use much of it only 50 gig of it so it took about 40 mins for me and I chose a strong encryption alorgithm and type. So really I guess it's the amount of cores your PC has as well as it's RAM because mines fresh of the line and is very powerful. has 8 cores and truecrpyt splits the load among each core evenly so the more power the less time Ask one of the admins they should be able to help. They helped me!
