Need laptop help

I turn my laptop on today and I see my normal Asus booting screen and then instead of directing me to my OS (Vista), I get a black screen with a white cursor blinking in the upper left-hand corner accompanied by an infinite high pitch tone that only stops when I hit power and shut it down again.

I'm aware of the beep codes, yet I can't seem to find what a continuous tone such as this means. Help me please

HDD corruption, I'm thinking.

But you might want to try memetest first. Just to make sure your RAM isn't holding you back.
