Need help with power supply

Ok, so I ordered an ATI Radeon 9800 so I need a new power supply(old 250W). I have a compaq presario 5000 running on 768mb ram/gForce2 mx 400/WD 120gig HD. I ordered a Demon 580W power supply only to find out that it would not plug into the mobo...(came with a 20 pin connecter mobo has is a 24 maybe more)So I'm currently searching for an adapter. Or do I just need to order another power supply?

some power supplies are for Pentium, some are for AMD, I think. I don't know if there is an adapter, but if you got your PSU from a store or newegg, exchange it for another one. That is kind of weird because PSU's should be compatible with most motherboards. You should also post your Mobo so we know...

Tooootally had the same problem with my old Compaq. I know there is a converter out there, I believe its 20 to 24 pin. Try ebay.
