This is my first time building a custom computer, is there anything I should change in that list? Does it seem like I'm getting a good deal on all this stuff? In total it's coming to around $1150.

I've dropped the total price by about $100, and I've made it way better. I'm so glad I came here before I bought it!

I'd change to an intel z68 motherboard. Get an i5 2500k and 8gb of ram. Drop the blu ray drive, optical drives are going extinct in my opinion. And from this get a radeon 6970 (or maybe the 7950 which is supposed to be released in 2 weeks).

Thanks for your help. Just a few questions. Why do you recommend the 2500k? The AMD completely blows it out of the water specs-wise, is there something else to consider as well? Why 8gb instead of 16? Ok, I agree with you completely on this on. I didn't realize until I wrote it down here that it wasn't a blu-ray writer, which is what turned me on to it in the first place since it was only 50 bucks. I'll just get a cheap one so I'll still be able to install windows and office. Do you suggest getting one, or crossfiring two? The reason I picked this was because it was so affordable, I could crossfire two of them, and on CPU benchmark it got very good scores. If you think I should get one, then could you maybe recommend one in the 300 dollar range that would be better? Is it even possible to crossfire on an intel board? I've also heard that Intel and Nvidia work well together, and AMD goes well with ATI, how true is this and to what extent? And ok, ill be sure to look into that.

Well just because spec wise the amd appears better, it doesnt make it a better product. For example you can get more power from a camaro that you would find in a lamborghini, however the lamborghini on the whole gives a better and smoother driving experience because it was made better and designed to be that way, unlike the camaro. The same can be said for cpus. Amd just cant match intel any more (as much as i hate to say it). With the gpu always try and get a single card where possible and add another at a later date (if required). Single gpu setups are smoother and less prone to bugs. Even though the crossfire setup is faster id take a single card, and when u need the extra power a second 6970 will be cheaper and almost double your graphic performance. And hopefully by then drivers would be perfect. And with the ram, 8gb is where its at right now, any more is useless for most people.

Oh okay, that actually helps a lot! I also did some research and in comparisons the 2500k outperformed it almost every single time. Alright, I'll think I'll wait for the 6950 because that's exactly what would fit in my budget. Thanks for your help!

Also, as much as I love Corsair, there are better options than the HX650 in that price range.

It's only about $10 and it has 5 star reviews on amazon so I thought why not Can you recommend some for me? I have no clue what makes the power supply good, it was just recommended with the case that I picked and it had really good reviews. I'm buying most of my parts in Canada, but some of the parts are way cheaper in the US so I'm ordering them to US Address, its this thing where you can order stuff to there and then go pick it up. I only live about an hour away from buffalo so it's not a bad option Can you tell me about that? Someone else recommended the 6950, which fits perfectly in my budget and I was thinking about getting that instead. I'm not in a huge rush, I just want to order everything within about a month.

Looking solely at the price I'd go with one of these.

Well aren't you a lucky dog, get to shop two countries for the best prices.
If you're willing to put in the time to comparison shop, you should be able to get some awesome deals.

If you're not in a rush I'll always suggest waiting.
The new AMD 7xxx cards are showing a lot of promise, so when the whole series is launched it should push down the price of the 6xxx series a bit.

Thanks a lot It means a lot that you put in the time to find all those and put them together like that. I know this one is REALLY cheap, but it seems pretty similar. It also has pretty good reviews. It's even crossfire ready, which I plan on doing in 2 or 3 years. Can you tell me your opinion?

I looked them up and the prices are like double what the 6950 is :/ I couldn't find a price on the 7950, but the 7970 and 7990 (around $700 each) are way out of my budget so I'll probably wait until they come out, and then pick up a 6950 when the price drops

I fail to find the logic in your opinion. While he may not need a Blu-Ray drive, ODD's are not extinct. They're needed to install an OS, and other things. Which by the way, to the OP, you need an OS.
