Hey this is my first time on TF and I figured I had nothing to lose by asking for help. I'm not exactly a techie but simply enjoy PC gaming and within the past month my laptop began getting quite laggy while playing various games, particularly Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I've had the laptop for about a year (specs: ASUS G60JX RBBX05 Specs (Core i5 430M 2.26 GHz, 16" TFT) - Laptops - CNET Reviews) and in that time have played many games with minimal trouble. While playing COD 4, I would start a match with roughly 60-80 fps steady and after about 5 minutes my frames would drastically drop to around 30 fps. A few times I also received an error message and had to close the game. I've run ccleaner to try and clear up some junk and am defragging at the moment. Any ideas on how I could speed up my playing without shelling out cash?

The error message I received was the usual windows pop up which said something like "the program iw_mw has stopped working". It always came almost as a disconnect because I was getting so few frames. As far as overheating, is there a way I could tell how hot my laptop was getting? Just to see if it is unusually high? Thanks for your help.

When I get a chance to run that I certainly will. At the time I had the error message problems I was also downloading a file which may have slowed down my laptop.

Alright so if overheating is the issue then any recommendations for cooling a laptop? Preferably under 50 bucks but all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
