I am planning on starting a new project in the next 3-6 months. I want to build a gaming desktop for my office. I have my laptop, but I want something that will dominate gaming. I am of course, starting with purchasing a case, and going from there. With the release of Windows 8 coming around the corner, should I wait to start buying parts, or will the new OS not bring any new technology out with it? Just need some others opinions.

RAM, Power supply, case, optical drive, monitor and keyboard/mouse you can buy now if you can find them on sale. everything else wait 'till you are actually going to put it together. or at least very soon. 3-6 months is far out there in world of tech.

In 3-6 months you'll be looking at the release of ivy bridge, next Gen gpus, ssds continuing to drop in price, and hopefully hdd prices lowering as well. So like what was said above look for deals on other components now, and save up for the newer components coming in the near future.
