Re: Alright guys, I need a little help with my build.

no more than $700 without the video card. Kinda tight, but i'm hoping it's manageable.
And i don't think i'll need a copy of Windows, i have an installation CD laying around somewhere
$700 w/o a GPU isn't hard at all! However the Windows situation is iffy.
If you bought a full retail version of Windows its fine, though it can only be on 1 machine at a time.
But if it is an OEM license (came with a pre-built computer perhaps) then its tied to the motherboard it was originally installed on.

DIY Kit: $639 Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!
ODD: $21 Sony Optiarc 24x DVD/CD Burner

Total = $660 w/o Windows (before rebates/shipping/etc)

Or, if you want more flexibility of choice:

CPU + MB: $370 i5 2500K + Asus P8Z68-V
HDD: $130 1TB Hitachi Deskstar
ODD: $21 Sony Optiarc 24x DVD/CD Burner
RAM: $30 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600/CAS9
PSU: $70 OCZ Fatal1ty 550W
Case: $50 NZXT Source 210 Elite

Total = $671 (-$20 rebate = $651)

Yeah the RAM is out of stock currently, but would expect it to be back soon considering how popular it is.
And the case is personal preference, the case in the DIY kit would also work.

@ Shananigans, just because you've changed your mind on some of the components in your new build that doesn't mean you have to start a new thread on the subject. I merged all of your threads on this subject/topic together, one thread per topic.
