First time video card upgrade. Need reccomendations.

I keep getting an error when installing the Radeon drivers from AMD. All I can get is AMD mobility from auto-detect. Will that matter? And I still can't get 1080p output even when I have the AMD drivers installed. I'm hooked up via VGA.

EDIT: Looks as if it's my monitor that won't support 1080p resolution. Oh well, time to buy a new one. I'm going to get a ASUS VW246H.
