I've checked the device manager, there is nth called plugandplay device. I couldn't find it in registry, I am using a XP SP2

nope... I don't think it is related to SP2
and guess what? after a few times of restart, the beeping sound becomes less frequent.

go to administrative tools in control panel, and open event viewer, see if there are any messages that indicate something wrong

Device Manager->System Devices->System Speaker(Right Click & Disable)

Yup, the non plug and play is found in the hidden devices in device manager..!

Did you disable both the, 'BEEP' found in hidden Plug and play devices and the 'system speaker' in System Devices? If you tried both of these options and you still get those beeps and freezes often, i suggets you to run a 'repair' using the XP Cd.
