Hi Ppl

Ive got a Dell Optiplex GX280 As A Second PC

Memory : 3GB DDR2 - As Soon as It Arrives

is this possible .. ??

Here's the manual for it: Documentation

will i notice a difference going from a intel pentium 4 520 2.8 1mb cache 800fsb to a Pentium 4 541 3.2ghz 1mb cache 800fsb 64bit ? would it be worth it ????

Cheers

Pretty much none at all, and no. Unless you can get the higher-clocked one for like, $1.

You're not going to get much (if any) noticeable performance increase going from a Pentium 4 to a higher-clocked Pentium 4. It's just too old.

ima take the risk and try and put a newer pentium cpu in it . like a 3.6ghz 2mb cache 800mhz fsb . chip or a pentium D 3.0Ghz / 4mb l2 / 800mhz and see what happens

cheers

According to the list Mindovermaster posted in the first reply to this thread, your motherboard will only take Pentium 4 CPUs. A Pentium D is very unlikely to work.

It all depends on the year the optiplex gx280 was made, and which STYLE (desktop/slim/fulltower), I have SEVERAL that have Pentium D processors, but the motherboards are changed very often on that particular model from Dell. They have some 280s that are 10 years old, or older.

Just finished putting Intel Pentium 4 650 CPU 3.4GHZ 2M cache in a Dell Dimension 3100/E310 with a intel 915G chipset this is 64bit HT processor it is the fastest you could use with a larger cache. It replaced a Pentium 4 2.8GHZ 1M cache.... takes only Prescott CPU
