Video card/motherboard compatibility question

ASUS P5B Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

This is my current motherboard. I'm curious if pci-e 2.0 video cards will work with this card.

If so, how much of a performance drop would there be?

Sorry I worded that pretty poorly. I meant if I use a card made for a pci-e 2.0 slot will it be slower than optimal on my motherboard?

I have a geforce 8800gts 320mb right now. Thinking of upgrading it sometime soon (along with CPU). I haven't really looked at what I want to upgrade to. I just noticed that basically all new cards are PCI-e 2.0.

PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible to 1.0
