Hello all :) My friend wanted me to build a gaming computer and his budget is 1000 dollars. He gonna use it for games and movies, he already have computer tower, hard drives and dvd drive. I had built few computers in the past, it has been a while so let me know what u think! thanks

along with new copy of windows 7 pro oem.... the total is 915.92 before shipping charges. let me know what u think, thanks

I wouldn't get a 6-core CPU for a gaming rig, games are just starting to utilize 4 cores.

1866MHz RAM is probably unnecessary, I'd go for some 1600 CAS8
8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600/CAS8, nice speed and smaller heatsinks.

I'd get the Hyper 212+ over the Freezer 7 Pro, same price for better cooling
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

Depending on what games he plays you might want to bump the graphics card up to something beefier.

Whats the motivation for getting Win7 Pro over Home, not judging just curious.

Really? But I have seen some gaming rig got 6 cores, but ok :)

i was thinking that too about ram, will get 1600 mhz ones.

will get the hyper 212+ then

what would u suggest for video card?

i told him that win 7 home is good enough but he wants pro soo.. dunno

You can certainly run a gaming rig on a 6-core CPU, but it is a waste.
Think of it like this: a game is using 4-cores, on an x6 that means 2 cores are just sitting there idle.
The FX-4100 is faster per core than the FX-6100, so instead of using 4 slower cores and having 2 idle you get more speed and no waste.
You also save $60 to put toward a better graphics card.

Can't really suggest a card until you know how much fat you can cut out of the budget.
$10 from the RAM, +$60 if you go with the FX-4100, +$40 if you can convince him to get Win7 Home.
Thats $110, if you get the M5A99X EVO MB thats another $35.
$200 for the original card +$145 and you're looking at a GTX 570 or HD 6970.

I don't seen any reason for buying FX-6100.

i5 2400 for same price destroys it in most benchmark

Also, similar priced Phenom II X6 1100T perform better than FX-6100 in most benchmarks

Looks good.

Let us know how the FX-4100 works for him, really curious as to how well it overclocks too.
Should have the performance of a Phenom II 980 @ the price of a 965.

Ok, I'll let you know. Not sure when tho, since he gonna take some time with parts.
