AMD or Nvidia? Which GPU should I get?

I will be using this monitor
Newegg.com - ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ Speakers 300 cd/m2 20000 :1 (ASCR)
And I want to play all my games on 1920x1080

I was originally thinking of getting the AMD 6870 and then later adding another one and crossfiring them when I need an upgrade...But then my friend recommended me a Nvidia 560ti or a 6950 2gb. I'm kinda confused on what card to get... I want to stay within below $250.

If youre gaming, do review searching and see which card card performs best in the games YOU play. They are both decent and about bout the same level.

Well most of the time I will be playing combat arms because I play it competitively. But since the game isn't that appealing graphically I will want to play MW3 and BF3. I also will play WoW and Star craft 2. Also quick question, I read somewhere that if I want to go 1920 1080 then I need a 2gb gpu, is this true?

No, not realy. The bigger you go, the more video ram becomes usefull, But ts not that important at that res.

Heres a review of the 560ti with the 6950 using BF2 as the test.

you can see the 6950 is jusdt a smidgen better, 3fps, at 1920x1080, But at 2080 its a much bigger difference.

Ok I have decided. I will go with a Newegg.com - XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
It is the best price/performance for me. The 6870 in crossfire is $340 after rebate vs the 560 Ti in SLI is $450 vs the 6950 in crossfire for $500. The 560ti is not that much better then the 6870 in crossfire (this is based on the benchmarks I saw on NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti SLI vs AMD RADEON HD 6870 Crossfire Review - YouTube). I will buy 1 now and when the amd 7xxx comes out I'm guessing the prices will drop even more and then I will buy another 6870 for crossfire.
