I have never built a computer before, and have next to no idea what I need to make a computer. I did a little research and found some builds and made my own based on the type of parts included in those builds. I don't know how to tell which parts are compatible, etc. but here is my build: (keep in mind that I am operating on a strict 600 dollar budget)

1. Case: LOGISYS Computer Area 51 CS51WBK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 480W Power Supply -40$

2. Internal Harddrive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJB 320GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive -45$

3. Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard -150$

4. Video Card: GIGABYTE GV-N26UD-896M REV2.0 GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card -100$

5. Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply -70$

6. Desktop Memory: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M1A1600C9 -28$

7. RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R -52$

8. Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX -130$

9. Case Fan: ARCTIC COOLING ACF8 Pro PWM 80mm Case Fan -9$

10. CPU cooler: ARCTIC COOLING ACALP64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler -20$

Total: $638.90

So that's my build. As you can see, its a little over 600 dollars, and I need to cut it down to about 560-570 so that I can add a keyboard and mouse, and a dvd drive etc. Also, I don't really know if all the parts are compatible or not. Please help me!

600 dollars is my budget. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could post me the best possible build for a gaming PC beneath the limit!

Re: Best gaming PC build for under 600 dollars

What are you doing with it? What games? There anything else you can use over again from your old system? You need a new OS, unless it is retail, not OEM.

To cut cost you can:
1) Get rid of one of the sets of RAM.
1a) Get rid of both RAM sets and get 8GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline.
2) Ditch the CPU cooler.
3) Ditch the extra case fan.
4) $40 cheaper MB ASRock 970 Extreme4.
5) $5 cheaper PSU until 10/19, and $25 rebate OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w.
6) $5 cheaper HDD until 10/19, and not recertified 500GB WD Caviar Blue.

Also, do you need to figure a copy of Windows 7 into the budget?

I tried shopping this build, and I gotta say $600 is a tough budget for a gaming PC.
