which upgrade would be better

well i have some money from a educational tax return that i just did i have around $ 350.

my system specs are
8gb ddr3 1333 mhz kingmax
ati 6850 Gigabyte
Corsair 650 tx power supply
amd quad core 640 3.0 ghz

im wondering if a amd quad core 640 3.0 ghz to a Intel i5 2500k oc'ed to 4.5 ghz would be a better upgrade than a ATI 6850 to a ATI 6970

I'd just upgrade the graphics card, as $350 is not enough to upgrade to a 2500k (cpu, motherboard, memory).

Oh, sorry, I misread, thought it was DDR2 for some reason.

In that case, $200 for the cpu, $150 for the motherboard would be enough.


I wouldn't bother upgrading the CPU, as that one is good already. A better graphics card would be more beneficial (if you play games).

Honestly, you can't go wrong either way though.
HD 6850 vs HD 6970
AMD Athlon II X4 645 vs Intel i5 2500k
(they didn't have the 640, only 0.1GHz difference though)

Yeah GPU would be a better buy
