Like the title says. I start up the machine, most times it goes to the desktop, then if i don't touch it for about 20 sec it asks me to shut down, restart, or log off. If I don't touch it, it shuts off my itself.

I know the battery is no good, and ive tried multiple power cables.

Any ideas?

Shouldn't there be something in power management, that you can set it not to do that? I'm not a Mac pro, but it sounds logical.

I tried to reset the SMC and it just shuts off before I can do the second step..which is to reset it.

I also can not press any of the bootup commands...none of them work..unless I am pressing them at the incorrect time. Am i supposed to hold them until the loading screen is done? Am I supposed to rapidly press them?

The link I send was what you should do before resetting the SMC. You'll need one of the two links towards the bottom of the page, either Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove or Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own.
