Hi there,

I have been getting this 'Windows - Delayed Write Failed popup for sometime now. It happens when i try to play a video file from my usb external hard drive, i go to play the file and then the message appears and then is followed by a windows media player message and it doesnt let me play any video files from my external hard drive?

What is the cause for this?

these are the messages i get.....

Does the location E:\$Mft exist? It would seem that WMP is trying to save data to that location which doesn't exist.

i just assumed that was the location for my external hard drive?

in My Computer the drive location is (E: )

Check the drives cabling. Is it usb? Try a different usb port. It could be the drive is dying. Some manufacturers have diagnostic tools you can download and test the drive.

no it cannot find \$Mft and my external hard drive is set on
'optimize for quick removal' and the other option is 'optimize for performance' (enable write catching on the disk)

I have now tried my external hard drive on 2 other computers 1 using Windows 7 and the other with XP the same as what im running and it played a video file with NO problems at all.

So it cant be my hard drive that has any problems, what can it be?
