IPad style screens?

hi,

i am currently thinking of embarking on a quest to make my own tablet computer running linux (specifically gentoo which i've never tried before )
this is mostly for educational purposes though i do hope to use it regularly

my main sticking point before i buy anything is that i cannot find a small display anywhere: does anyone know of a small (7 to 12 inch) screen, preferably with linux friendly touchscreen that is thin enough?

touchscreen is not vital: there are kits i could try but they may not always be compatable...

You can not make your own tablet. That's like saying you want to make your own motherboard. Isn't going to happen.

MoM, why won't it happen? And why couldn't someone make their own motherboard? If they knew enough about what they were doing anything is possible.

So with the technical know-how, it is possible, sorry I can't point you in the direction of parts though.

You have to be pretty smart to do so. If you have no experience in micro-computing, I'm sorry, but you can't. It would cost a lot more than just buying a tablet.
